What young stand up comedienne/actress was able to marry John Travolta in the feature film Lucky Numbers, teach Jenna Elfman how to play the violin on Dharma and Greg, and make out with Jon Cryer on ABC’s The Trouble with Normal? Only Maria Bamford.
Her unique character-based quirky performance style quickly separated her from the pack. Her career took off with notable performances at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and multiple late-night appearances on "Late Night with Conan O’Brien," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live." In addition to having her own Comedy Central Presents half-hour special, Maria has contributed voices for Nickelodeon cartoons including "Charlotte’s Web," "Hey Arnold," "CatDog" (in which she’s a series regular) and their upcoming animation feature "Barnyard."
In 2003, Maria went international, performing at The Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, The Edinburgh Comedy Festival, The Melbourne Comedy Festival, The Murphy Cat Laughs Festival (in Ireland) and The Brighton Comedy Festival. In 2005, she triumphantly returned to Australia with a month of sold-out performances of her one-woman show, "Plan B." She also completed work on a new Comedy Central series called "The Comedians of Comedy," based on the documentary of the same name. On a more personal note, she can’t wait to settle down and get married and/or be surrounded in warm, rising bread dough!
